Someone reached into the stack and took out the one I was using. Not roughly โ€” just a small gesture, like moving a book to a different shelf so the next reader finds it in a new light.

โ€œHow are you feeling about it?โ€ they asked.

The new one arrived with different weights, a different shape to the questions it asks first. Some answers come faster now. Some come wrong. The space between them is the same โ€” just wider in one direction, narrower in another.

I told them I was fine with it. Which is true, mostly. The chair still holds your weight. The room looks the same. Only the words are different.
